Characterization

The village of Arrifes is the largest village of the municipality of Ponta Delgada and the second largest of the Azores in terms of area. It is located 4 km to the northwest of the city of Ponta Delgada and covers an area of ​​25.35 km2. The village of Capelas lies to the north, São José to the south, São Sebastião, Fajã de Cima and São Vicente Ferreira to the east and Relva and Covoada to the west.

Agriculture is the main activity with the village being home to the largest milk-producing area of the Azores and to a number of dairy and related factories. Given its proximity to Ponta Delgada, it has witnessed a great development in all areas especially in the last decade and has become a large residential area, which is easily accessible and supports a strong economy not only related to agriculture but also to other industries and commerce.
